2025 Progressive Team of the Year Update After Two Events

Taylor and Taylor in 1st

Boulware and McCall in 2nd

March 14, 2025 (SPRINGFIELD, Mo.) – With two events completed in the 2025 Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Texas Team Trail presented by Progressive it’s time to look at the first release of the Team of the Year standings and how teams sit as they look at their shot at  2025 Progressive Team of the Year title.   Of note is that the top 75 teams earn their way to compete in the prestigious TXTT Championship which will be held on Sam Rayburn in June.

After two events, the father-and-son team of Brett & Bruce Taylor find themselves in the lead. Finishing in 9th at Sam Rayburn and 3rd at the recent Lake Texoma event, the duo has amassed 490 points and have taken home $5,560 in winnings. Consistency has given the duo the early lead, something that is always very crucial for every team that wants to find themselves with a chance to win the TOY title with two events left in the regular season as well as the double points championship.

Interesting statistics to note is that, Russel Cecil and Todd Castledine won the title in 2023, and last year the team of Brian Schott & Jim Smith won the 2024 Progressive Team of the Year and neither team had a win in the regular season. But both teams were one of the very few teams that cashed a check in every single event.

2nd – Clayton Boulware & Chris McCall: 488 points

Only two points behind in second place in Nitro Boats owner Clayton Boulware and Chris McCall. Clayton and Chris both have a very strong reputation in the state of Texas. This team is a huge threat in second place and are hungry for a victory at Toledo Bend.

After a 4th place finish at Lake Texoma, they have collected 488 points and amassed a total of $4,648 which includes two Nitro Rewards cash bonuses. Finishing a respectable 11th place at Sam Rayburn, not finishing below 12th place has them in prime position going into the 3rd event of the season.

Other interesting facts:

  • 2024 Progressive Team of the Year Brian Schott & Jim Smith, fishing off free entry fees they earned from last year’s performance, are currently in 5th
  • 2024 Runner-Up in points Shane Howell and Jeff Reynolds are currently 11th in 2025 points.
  • 2022 TXTT Championship winners Shaine Campbell & Wyatt Frankens are currently 16th in points.
  • Lake Texoma 2nd place team Dave Redington and Chad McClendon jumped to 20th in points after finishing 77th at Sam Rayburn reservoir.

The weather at Lake Texoma certainly changed the standings for those teams in the hunt for a slot in the championship.   It’s expected that teams that weigh fish in only three events this season will likely qualfy for the championship as some top teams had zeros in the second event.  . Mathematically, three performances would still qualify a team for the 2025 TXTT Championship on Sam Rayburn Reservoir, June 7th & 8th. At this event a Nitro and Ranger boat package will be awarded, plus top finishing teams in the Team of the Year will get paid as well as numerous other contingency cash bonuses.

The race to win team of the year is a tight one as well as the positions to earn a slot in the double points championship.  The winner of the season long Progressive Team of Year race will walk away with a  2025 Ranger Z-520 boat package. This package alone is worth $86,540.00. In addition to the boat and motor package  the winning team will also take home free entry fees into the 2026 TXTT season, free memberships for 2026, and new Bass Pro Shops GuideWear suits for each team member. The total value of the 2025 Progressive Team of the Year package is over $88,000.00 in cash and prizes.

Event #3 of the TXTT season is coming up in three weeks on Toledo Bend Reservoir in Many, LA. Registration is still open, and teams will be competing for over $100,000 in cash and prizes based on a 225-boat field. The winning team is GUARATEED to take home a 2025 Ranger Z-518 boat package.
