DUNKIRK, NY (August 7, 2025) – Day One of Stop #4 on the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour presented by Progressive wrapped up with 30 bags over 30 pounds. With calm conditions and shifting water, anglers had to adapt quickly. No one did it better than David Hoisington of Warren, PA, who leads the Pro Angler division with 37 pounds even, along with his Co-Angler partner Andrew Bentz of Brookville, IN.
“I live an hour and a half from here, got a bunch of home court advantage, but then the lake flipped,” said Hoisington. “I love fishing in Barcelona and our spots were just gone. With all the calm water I knew the guys would be running all over the lake. I found a spot one of the first practice days that ended up being great without a ton of people around me. I am just hoping to be able to hit them again tomorrow. I made some great decisions today and I’m really thankful and ready to get back out there tomorrow.”
In second place is Pro Angler Tom Huynh of Wolverton, MN, paired with Co-Angler Andrew Bernau of Glenville, MN, with a solid 34 pounds, 2 ounces. Huynh came into the event with a goal and was able to execute.
“I came into this knowing I had to win,” said Huynh. “I’m out of the AOY race and only needed one fish to make the Championship, so I laid it all on the line. My first cast landed a fish just shy of 8 pounds, followed by a 7-pounder. The first five fish I caught were the ones I weighed. I wasn’t around many boats and was seeing hundreds of fish. If finesse didn’t work, I’d switch to a reaction bait. Tomorrow’s wind will make boat control critical—it’ll take another 30 pounds to stay in the hunt.”
Friday’s final weigh-in will not only determine the Dunkirk champions, it will also set the field for the 2025 Championship in Marinette, WI. Plus, fans tuning in to the live stream will be the first to hear exciting announcements about the 2026 season, including the full schedule reveal.
