Mercury Pro-Angler Andersen Takes the Lead on Day-2 at the 2024 NWT Championship

Lake Huron, and mother nature, have made the Top-10 anglers after today’s cut have to earn where they’re standing currently with only one day left of competition. The majority of anglers have found success staying consistent and relating to fishing areas, and conditions, that they have the most confidence in. Leader Kent Andersen is no different from the rest of the field.

“I’m an angler out here on the NWT that runs a tiller boat, so the last few days with the conditions on a great lake definitely factored into how I’ve been able to fish. But today was a day where I just put my head down and continued running the pattern in the same areas that I did yesterday, but fishing cleaner today allowed me to have a bigger bag and the upgrade helped me secure the lead going into championship day tomorrow,” said the NWT veteran.

“Tomorrow, the weather looks like it could be the worse. If we’re able to go out (tomorrow) and fish, I’m not going do anything different, I’m going continue running the same pattern and the same group I found in practice and fish that has helped me get to me where I am at and hopefully it’s enough to clinch the title.”

Weighing a 5-fish limit each day on Lake Huron giving him 10 fish for 38–10. He has just shy of a 1-pound lead over second place, and a very hungry group of anglers that make up the rest of the Top-10.

Second Place goes to Nitro/ Mercury Pro-Angler Evan Rosemore

An angler who has stayed relatively silent throughout the 2024 NWT season, but stayed consistent and qualified for this year’s championship, is Nitro/ Mercury Pro-Angler Evan Rosemore. Today, after weighing his best bag of the tournament of

19-00 he finds himself in second place less than a pound out of the lead going into the final day of the 2024 NWT championship on Lake Huron, where the winner will walk away with $30,000 cash and a new 2024 Ranger 620FS boat powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS motor.

Evan, a native pro angler from Minnesota was able to catch a two-day total of 37-15.

“Today was a very magical day in the boat, and after learning a little bit of something different yesterday and continuing to put pieces together I found in practice, I ended up with the best day I have experienced on the water all season. Not only that, I got to fish with my father who is competing as a co-angler this week. That probably helped my mental game the most because I was just able to go out and fish for fun,” said Rosemore.

Evan went on to report that he caught over a dozen keepers on Lake Huron today and was able to cull a couple of times to secure the weight he had before needing to leave in time to come back to weigh-in.

“I’m not fishing anything too out of the ordinary, mainly my primary strength is slowing down and focusing on the area where I’m catching my fish. I have to mix it up a lot with the different presentations and how I’m catching them, and electronics has been key for me this week. But I feel confident going into tomorrow, even with the weather situation that I can have another strong bag”.

Evan goes into the final day in Oscoda, Michigan, looking for his first victory on the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s National Walleye Tour presented by Progressive.

Third Place goes to Jake LaPine

Power-Pole pro angler Jake LaPine also has a chance to accomplish his first Top-5 of the 2024 NWT season after weighing a total of 37-13 of Lake Huron walleye.

Jake, an NWT angler from Oshkosh, Wisconsin, had a nearly 7-pound difference with his bag today over yesterday. That upgrade puts him just a little over 1-pound out of the lead.

“Yesterday, I was very frustrated with my performance, and I absolutely did not fish as clean as I needed to, but still a decent enough bag to be in contention. Today was a much different story, and every fish that I hooked was not only a keeper, but I was able to land it in the boat, ” said Jake.

“Tomorrow, I’m a little bit more worried about what the weather is going do to the fish I’m catching, and how well I’ll be able to stay on the fish. Making the Top-10 going into the final day of the NWT championship means a lot so regardless, I’ve exceeded my expectations and goals for this season. It’s going to be a fun one and I am going to put the Power-Pole MOVE trolling motor on high and leave it all out on the water”
