DUNKIRK, NY — Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour (NWT), presented by Progressive, is set to return to the shores of Lake Erie in Dunkirk, New York, on August 7–8, 2025, bringing elite anglers, national attention, and a boost to the local economy.
Hosted at the Dunkirk City Pier, this two-day tournament will feature elite competition in one of the country’s most productive walleye fisheries. Anglers will launch at 7:00 a.m. each morning, with weigh-ins beginning at 3:15 p.m., the public is invited to bring chairs and tune in for all the action!
Tournament Director, Jeff Kelm said “All of the anglers are excited to spend a few summer days in Dunkirk! Those that had the privilege to be there in 2022 for the Championship have spoken so highly of the community, the scenery and of course the fishing. The Lake Erie walleye migration puts these fish right where we are going to be, it’s going to be a great time! The tournament boundaries include all New York waters of Lake Erie, as well as connected rivers, creeks, and canals. Dunkirk’s strategic location and welcoming community make it an ideal host city.”
John Hoyer, 2022 National Walleye Tour Champion, is looking forward to the return to Dunkirk, “Dunkirk, NY, is my favorite Walleye memory of all time . With being confined to NY water only, I will not be able to fish where I won the Championship in 2022, but I am eagerly awaiting to capitalize on new water. I look forward to the sheer numbers of fish that will be suspended near the shorelines and also in open water. The angler that wins this event will crack the code of where the 7 to 8lbers are living this summer! Dunkirk is an amazing host city, I look forward to some of that hospitality!”.
The NWT event is more than just a fishing tournament – it is a celebration of outdoor recreation and community spirit. Local businesses, restaurants, and hotels are preparing to welcome anglers and fans from across the country, with the event expected to generate significant tourism and economic impact.
