NWT Lake Huron, MI: Tournament Predictions from the Pros!

Springfield, MO (July 7, 2025) – The third stop of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour presented by Progressive is scheduled for Lake Huron out of Alpena, Mi. The top walleye tournament angels will once again come together in the state of Michigan, fishing for over $150,000 in cash & prizes, and more importantly, capturing Progressive Angler of the Year points to get one step closer to qualifying for the 2025 NWT Championship in September.

With two events of the season completed Dylan Nussbaum is the current leader in the Progressive Angler of the Year race but he has several of the biggest names in walleye fishing hot on his heels. He shared the thoughts below on this week’s event.

“Lake Huron is one of the biggest, baddest bodies of water to catch walleyes on. You are going to see a variety of tactics such as trolling cranks/Spinners, casting death jigs, jigging raps, plastics, and live bait, from shallow to deep and everywhere in between. It is a body of water you never know what to expect. Utilizing Livescope and Navionics Vision+ on my Garmin electronics will be key for breaking water down efficiently this event. It is going to come down to making the right decisions, keeping a close eye on conditions, and paying attention to the little things to pull off a win here.”

Regarding leading the Progressive Angler of the Year after two events Dylan shared this:
“Going into the third event of the season leading AOY is a great feeling, but I can let that get to me. I am still going into this event with the winning mentality. The guys behind are not going to let up so I need to stay at the top at every event the rest of the season!”

The Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour also caught up with veteran walleye pro angler Chase Parsons who shared his feelings on the upcoming event:

“The NWT third stop out of Alpena, MI will be an exciting one to keep an eye on! This time of year, there should be plenty of fish within a short trip from take-off but the biggest thing to watch will be wind directions and fluctuating water temps. If water temps drop on the shoreline we’re out of, it could require long runs across one of the roughest bodies of water we fish, so I’m happy to be in a Nitro ZV21! I am expecting nice bags and several guys who may make a long run and find their fish have moved, so finding consistent biting fish will be the key!”

Anglers and fans in the Alpena area are highly encouraged to come join the NWT on Thursday, July 10 & Friday, July 11 for launch and weigh-in activities. Daily launches will begin at 7:00am CT, and daily weigh-ins will start at 3pm. Both events are free to the public and will be held at Alpena Marina 400 E. Chisholm ST Alpena, MI 49707.
