SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (June 17, 2024) – The Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Walleye Tour presented by Progressive is gearing up for stop number three of the season on the Bay of Green Bay in Oconto, WI. The event will feature and elite field of 110 Pro-Anglers and Co-Anglers competing for over $300,000 in cash and prizes, as well as valuable points toward the no entry fee championship in September on Lake Huron. The winning Pro-Angler will walk away with a 2024 Ranger 620FS powered by a Mercury 250 Pro XS plus $15,000 cash. The winning Co-Angler will receive a check of $7,500. Many of the anglers are predicting this event to really shake up the 2024 Progressive Angler of the Year race as the area has been fishing tougher than normal.
Current AOY Hunter Nitti is Staying Focused
Ranger Boats & Mercury Marine angler Hunter Nitti is off to one of the most impressive starts to an NWT season recorded. The young Minnesota Pro-Angler finds himself at the top of the mountain with 393 points.
“I am just going to stay focused on putting my homework in, making good decisions, and putting fish in the boat,” said the Rapala Pro-Angler. “Decision making is what I have learned the most the last few years, and this year I am keeping my head clear and just focusing on the fish I can catch doing what I do best.”
Nitti predicts anglers will be relying a lot on forward facing sonar and Garmin LiveScope to do a lot of damage this week in Wisconsin.
“Like the other tournaments we have had so far this year, there will be a lot of guys working the electronics game and then others probably depending on their strengths of trolling and throwing jigs.”
Hunter does not have a big lead in the points race. Ranger/ Mercury angler, and former NWT Champion, Eric McQuoid is right behind him by only 8 points. With a NWT Championship title on his resume, the young Pro-Angler will be looking to gain ground in his home state this week.
TH-Marine Pro-Angler Chris Berglund says Anglers Will be Spread Out
“The fishing is likely to be toss up, I know the last time we had a tournament here, guys really struggled with different water conditions. And then I predict anglers will want to stay local and fish conservatively, and others are going to make a run chasing the size”, said the Triton Boats angler.
“I am, going to fish the conditions present. I feel like there will be guys find a little secret something trolling, but I also believe the casting/ electronic game will be strong. Without a doubt I will be depending on my Garmin graphs this week.”
The Minnesota Pro-Angler finds himself mid pack of the points in 26th. A solid finish at the Bay of Green Bay this week could give him, a chance to potentially climb into the Top-10 before the final qualifying event of the season in August.
